My journey to becoming a PA in internal medicine started in my hometown of Buffalo, NY – Go Bills & Go Sabres! I am grateful to many Buffalo mentors who encouraged and inspired me to seek a career in healthcare. This led me to pursue my undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC where I received a Bachelors of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Religion. I specifically chose to study religion in addition to the sciences because I believe that understanding my patient’s perspective is just as important as understanding the science.
After graduating from Wake Forest University, I stayed in Winston-Salem to gain healthcare experience as a pediatric medical assistant. During this time, I realized that a career as a PA would allow me to meaningfully serve others and continuously learn about science. I spent the next two years completing prerequisite courses while working part-time in Buffalo, NY and Denver, CO. After getting our fix of skiing and outdoor life in Colorado, my husband and I moved to Chicago, IL where I completed a Masters of Medical Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Northwestern University. My education and clinical experience at Northwestern University prepared me to be an analytical and compassionate PA.
My husband’s career and his family ties to Southeast Florida prompted our move to the area, and I started serving Southeast Florida under the direction of Dr. John Sortino. He was influential in teaching me about hormone replacement therapy to alleviate a patient’s symptoms of menopause and low testosterone. As Dr. Sortino moved out-of-state, I began searching for a new job in which I would be able to continue to help patients feel their best through hormone replacement therapy while continuing to practice internal and preventive medicine.
This led me to join Dr. Brian Moraes’s practice in August of 2019 as we share the same patient-centered healthcare goals. I have enjoyed practicing integrative medicine and advanced preventive cardiology with the support of Dr. Moraes’s expertise. My healthcare practice continues to evolve as I learn about new medical research, and I am excited to be a part of Hybrid Medical Solution as we continue to apply the latest advancements in medicine to the care of our patients.
In addition to my clinical practice, I enjoy precepting PA students for their internal medicine rotations and mentoring undergraduate students who are interested in the PA profession. I am proud to help prepare future healthcare providers to be thorough, thoughtful, and patient-centered. I also spend some of my free time maintaining current medical knowledge through listening to medical interviews, attending conferences and lectures, and reading journal articles and books.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and our collie (Daly), baking desserts, kayaking, and water skiing. I am currently looking forward to learning two new hobbies: birding and piano.
